Back Pain: Relieving Back Pain

There are many methods that Americans use for relieving back pain. The most common methods of treatment are massage therapy or the help of a licensed chiropractor. Another very popular method is inversion therapy, or the act of hanging upside down to stretch or perform exercises that strengthen the core area of your body–the back, abdominals and glutes.

Inversion Therapy for Back Pain?
The idea of hanging upside down to relieve back pain doesnt seem to make much sense when you initially think about it. However, after pondering the concept longer you can begin to understand why this treatment can work. By hanging upside down from a bar or on a table, the force of gravity works with you to pull your body into a natural stretch.

The type of stretch that can be achieved through inversion therapy allows the discs in the spine to become decompressed. This treatment is also very relaxing and static–there should be no pain when performing this exercise. While you are inverted, the discs have more space between them allowing for them to become hydrated. This is extremely important in relieving common lower back pain and muscle spasms.

Inversion therapy can also be done at various angles, so you can find the position that is most comfortable for you. The longer you continue to do this type of therapy, the more you will be able to invert, and the more efficiently you will be able to perform exercises. You can do inversion therapy in conjunction with massage therapy or simply on its own. You can also prevent yourself from ever suffering from back pain by doing inversion stretches and exercises on a regular basis. Since the core of your body ultimately becomes stronger, the chance of injuring your back from doing something physical becomes less.
